where do i even start with this album....it's so perfect that i'm not really sure what to say other than that. i'm just not good with words.
there's sooo sooo soooo much music i love, but i don't think anything can ever truly top this album for me. every time i think maybe i'm tired of it, i listen to it again and remember "oh right... this is the best album of all time." like not only is the music the best music ever... the narrative is so engaging and interesting that this is one of the few albums where i have music videos in my head for every song (which makes it like 100x more fun to listen to). i cannot wait for the fucking imaginal disk movie bro......
i feel like imaginal disk will always til the day i die have such a special spot in my heart. like...not to be dramatic or anything.... but it came out during what i would say was literally the worst period of my life and the anticipation for it was one of the only reasons i didn't just end everything then and there. during a time where i would break down crying pretty much every other minute, and felt like my life was literally over, my heart would physically hurt most of the time, and nothing was bringing me joy the same way it was before... the release of this album really brought me so much comfort and joy that i didn't know i could still feel at the time, and i don't know if i would still be here without it. or something like that...
basically this album and magbay mean the world to me. their music is like a part of my soul at this point i think. thank you for existing and creating art matt & mica, your music makes me grateful to be alive.
i love every song in this album (yes even the interludes) so dearly that they're all my favorites. but still... here's my
top 5: 1. Vampire in the Corner 2. Killing Time 3. Cry for Me 4. Watching T.V. 5. Fear, Sex
oh doopee time my love.... i wrote a long review of this on my blog (3/17-18/26) when i first heard it but i'll write my thoughts now too.
there's something truly so so special about this album that i literally can't put into words. it's so deeply human in such a strange way and makes me feel emotions that i don't think i've ever felt with any other album before. it makes me think too much about life and mortality and love and what it all means and how special and human it all is, and also humanity and the world in general, and it always makes me such a stupid emotional dramatic sobbing mess by the end of it. every single time. it's so funny because with the way some songs are written, it's so surreal and amateurish where it feels like it's not meant to be taken as seriously as i do but there is no way for me not to feel so many intense emotions when listening to this. it's just so indescribably special. truly a once in a lifetime type of album.
i don't think it's for everyone, but i think it's worth listening to for anyone... but whether it'll make you as emotional as it makes me i think depends on how dramatic and depressed you are, honestly... you have to have a strange appreciation for life and awareness of death to feel how i feel about it. but i do think whether you're extremely dramatic or not, anyone with a soul who listens to Doopee Time will cry, or at the very least get decently emotional at Someday, That Place In Time.
"I'll see you there... some day, that place in time
...It's a deal, for sure."
i remember sobbing the very first time i heard this song and i hadn't even heard it with the context of the album yet. i had gotten Time and Space on my discover weekly a few months prior and loved it so much, and i saw Someday, That Place In Time was the most popular song from the band, so i decided to listen to it... and was just left in tears...
there's really sooo much i could say about this album. like too much. it's a concept album with a narrative to it, i don't know how i wouldn't have too much to say about it. i have a whole movie in my head for this album... like every song has its own deliberate music video... it's incredible and my favorite thing ever when i can do that with an album. and i honestly have a parasocial relationship with the characters Caroline and Suzi from this album like those are my best friends.
i think this album is genuinely one of the best things that's happened to me and i hope Yann Tomita lives forever. in my world, it's always Doopee Time.
top 5: 1. Time and Space (genuinely top 5 songs ever) 2. Some Day, That Place in Time 3. Now That You've Gone 4. Doopee Time 5. How Does It Feel
i love my country Schlagenheim... I'D SPENT ALL YOUR CASH BY THE TIME I GOOTTTT TO SCHLAGENHEIM
this album is my everything. Western might legitimately be my favorite song of all time. that gay ass cowboy song leaves me in Shambles every single time. literally don't even get me started on that fucking song.
this album is so loud and stupid it kills me and it's my favorite thing ever it's so fun... Western is one of the saddest black midi songs but Of Schlagenheim, bmbmbm, and Ducter (song where greep starts moaning in the middle of his sentences during the last buildup and he's talking about dick for some reason) are also the funniest black midi songs. the variety is beautiful.
Near DT, MI -> Western -> Of Schlagenheim -> bmbmbm also might be my favorite track run ever.
top 5: 1. Western 2. Near DT, MI 3. Of Schlagenheim 4. bmbmbm 5. Speedway (cam's moe in this song is insane.)
this album genuinely changed my music taste forever. i owe it my life. it's so beautiful and also so sad... Dear Future Self makes me cry every time. the whole album makes me cry every time actually... it's so bittersweet in the most beautiful meaningful way ever. i love you kkb. please come back.....
top 5: 1. Only Acting 2. Outside 3. If I'd Known 4. Flyway 5. Make Believe
yeule i love u so much... "ily" doesn't actually mean "i love you" it means "i love yeule."
x w x is my favorite album opener ever and i cry every time i listen to software update... especially with inferno right after it. the lyric "i will still love you 10,000 years from now" in inferno hurts me every time i hear it.
i just love this album so so much...
top 5: 1. x w x 2. softscars 3. inferno 4. dazies 5. cyber meat
i can't explain why i love this album as much as i do. one of the few videogame soundtracks i know that works perfectly just as an album outside of its game. it's amazing... like when i first heard this i actually hadn't played any katamari game at all and i still immediately fell in love with it. it just makes me so happy and is an album that is honestly perfect for doing like anything. i've worked out, studied, cried, slept, and cooked to this album it's genuinely perfect for any occassion. one day i'll get married to this album and then one day i will die and have this album play at my funeral. it's that important to me.
every time i listen to this album every problem in my life is gone. if my life is ever in shambles it's because i haven't listened to this album in a while, and when i listen to it again suddenly everything is okay again.
something about this soundtrack and game speaks to my soul so deeply i really can't explain it. even though i was probably (definitely) not the intended audience it still feels like it was made just for me.
i'm so dramatic about this album but it's genuinely just incredible. Moon & Prince is honestly the best video game song ever... WE ♡ KATAMARI!!
top 5: 1. Moon & Prince 2. Taste of an Angel (underrated idm masterpiece) 3. Lonely Rolling Star 4. Katamari On the Rocks 5. Cherry Blossoms
also Roll Me In
you know i had to put my girls here... this album and show make me too emotional for my own good...
this is like my comfort album. it never fails to lift my spirits when i'm having a bad day. having this and the katamari album back to back is making me feel like that picture of the dog with the lollipop but i just love cute music and being happy ok.
and maybe i'm biased because this show means the world to me but i think this is the best anime ost ever. it's so cute and beautiful and fun, and the second disc being like the recordings htt did in episode 23 of season 2 where they recorded all of their songs to leave them in the club after graduation...🥺 it's just too cute and sweet.
the mixture of half of the songs being about food or love and then U&I and Tenshi Ni Furetayo! randomly being so genuinely emotional and beautiful is funny to me too. there is nothing funny about Tenshi Ni Furetayo! though... i literally couldn't even think about that song without crying for at least a full week after i finished k-on for the first time seriously. even now... it's too much.....
but i think you can tell i love this show just from this entire website so i really didn't even need to write this lowkey.
top 5: 1. Samidare 20 Love 2. Watashi No Koi Wa Hotchkiss 3. U&I 4. Honey Sweet Tea Time 5. Ichigo Parfait Ga Tomaranai
this is one of the first albums i remember really loving. i found The Body of Earthling on soundcloud in 2021 and fell so in love then when i listened to the full album i fell even harder... it's just the cutest sweetest happiest little album ever.
top 5: 1. 地球人のカラダ 2. EVE 3. go-go! shoopergirl! 4. bomber minmi 5. Goodbye My Sweet Strawberry
